Facilitating 80% reduction in truck waiting time for a leading Port in Indonesia with Port Community System

A port with strategic importance

Our client is a major Port in Indonesia and a member of Asosiasi Badan Usaha Pelabuhan Indonesia (ABUPI). Major exports from the port include petroleum products, teak, rubber, groundnuts, rice, and cassava. This port is multi-modally connected by road and railway with Kudus and Semarang to the southwest and with Cepu and Surabaya to the southeast.

Long truck wait times and opportunities lost

Like every other port in Asia Pacific, port authority too was subject to a minimum truck dwell time of 60 minutes and during peak hours the same would go on till 4 hours. Due to this, movement of cargo was heavily delayed, and the turnaround time was significantly low that made the port highly uncompetitive with its peers.

In addition to this, lack of integration between land side and seaside stakeholders too was missing, which led to chaos in overall operations. Also, documentation largely remained manual and the stakeholders were sharing it among themselves through Whatsapp.

Enabling Lower Truck wait times with Port Community System

Kale Logistics Solutions offered its flagship Port Community System  – CODEX at the Port, which has a track record of enabling rapid cargo throughput, improving operational efficiency and especially lowering truck wait times at various Ports worldwide.

The port authority chose Kale Logistics Solutions to lower truck congestion at the port gate by reducing the dwell time and improve operational efficiency of the overall port operations.

Cutting-edge technologies such as 5G, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning were utilized to develop this solution.

In order to address longer truck waiting time, the port configures the slots into Kale’s CODEX Port Community System based on their planning and working pattern. Once the slots have been configured, transporter can log in into the portal and book a slot form the available timings which the port has configured previously.

A token number is generated and system-based gate-pass which is QR code enabled after the transporter books a slot.

BI enabled dashboard – a unique functionality

As a part of data analysis and improved decision-making abilities, the system has also benefitted the port authority and transporters to view their operations using business intelligence enabled dashboards.
