One of the leading terminal operators across the globe

Our client is one of the leading terminal operators across the globe offering services for terminal operations, container freight stations and rail operations, with over 50 Million TEU handled in 2017. It has over 20,000 employees and has presence in over 30 countries and over 50 Marine and Inland Terminals. Our client currently handles about 5200 Moves of imports shipment and 3100 Moves of exports shipment quarterly.

Legacy system constricts growth potential

Our client is a multi-facility terminal catering to all types of cargo/containers. It had undefined process flows for CFS operations, CFS/Cold & Cool Store processes, Dubal & Borouge operations, road operations and warehouse operations. Operations were manual and semi-automated. It wanted a system to integrate with their in-house IT system, Customs, Terminal Display Management System (TDMS) & Dubai Trade, and Billing Systems. The client had an internally created system called Promis, created by their IT team. It was a first level system which didn’t have functionalities for container management such as Mobile Device Terminal (MDT), Vehicle window or a  RS module for Kalmar.

Selecting a technology partner

CAPELLA – web-enabled CFS/ICD management system from Kale Logistics Solutions was chosen by the client. The comprehensive system had:

  • TOS, Rail Operations, Road Operations, Intermodal Operations, Maintenance & Repairs functionality for Dry / Reefer Container along with integration to Financial applications.
  • Its unique capabilities like easy to use UI, robust n-tier architecture and the ability to handle multiple core Business operations more efficiently, than any other market platforms.

Industry Overview Web-enabled CFS / ICD management system optimises operational efficiencies

CAPELLA was the right fit for the client because it included all the functionalities that they were looking for such as cross-stuffing, MDT – gate in / gate out done directly by gate operator (thereby minimizing manual work), RS module which were necessary for their ever-increasing scale of operations.

Some of the benefits derived after implementation of CAPELLA included – Manual work being minimized, Tally, Request, Gate in are all now done on the system, Warehouse person doesn’t need to come to the office, they can do their work on MDT.

Full Automation of current business operations was carried out. All operations right from Customer Registration to last mile stone of  Business activity is Online. On Boarding, they were able to place with the On Line booking with the client.

  • Customized tariff and pricing engine.
  • Integrated Online Payment.
  • Integrated BI platform offering KPIs, KPAs, forecasting, simulation and analysis.
  • Customized reports as per management requirements.
  • Secured operations on a single application.

CAPELLA automated the disorganized Multi Modal processes to give the operator instant access to information and provide management with complete visibility of their business.

The shift from legacy system to web-enabled CFS / ICD management system

In the implementation of the CAPELLA system, the roadblock or challenge was that the client wanted integration with their in-house port system, Vehicle functionality and some scenarios such as specific scenario, partial scenario and bypassing some screens such as Customs examination. The Kale team customized CAPELLA to suit the requirements of the client and provided the required functionalities.
